This is my favourite activity to help people learn to develop their creative eye. Choose a subject and spend 5 minutes trying to capture images of that subject from all sorts of different angles. Invariably, a photographer may feel that after 2-3 minutes photographing a subject, they have captured all the photos they can of the subject. The last few minutes of this activity forces you to keep looking for photos and helps you to develop your creative eye.
Take a look at my attempt at the 5 minute challenge below.
I decided to use a Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 lens because it is a fantastic option which allows me to zoom between a wide angle lens and a short telephoto. If I have to pick one lens to walk around and photograph with, it would be this lens. I absolutely love it. The minimum focus distance of the lens is 38 cm (1.2 feet) which allows me get close and capture some details.
Just like an athlete who warms up before a competition or a singer who warms up before a concert, this simple 5 minute activity will help you to warm up your creative eye. If you do this on a regular basis, it will help you when you are approaching new subjects because you will start to see different angles and options that you may not have seen before.
